If anybody wants to get me a present, get me Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner. It came out on the 14th, and my broke ass is too poor to buy books.

Do you ever wake up in the morning and say to yourself, "Man, I need to get a grip on my life?" That's what I said to myself. These are the things I do in order to get a grip on my life:

I turn in my TB test paperwork to school.
I get a new parking pass.
I strip my bed and wash everything associated with it.
I wash all of my dirty clothes.
I read at least two chapters in my Blueprints in Pediatrics books.
I cut the cats' nails.
I borrow a vacuum to clean my apartment, as mine is ruined. (Those of you who know me best know what a broken vacuum does to me.)
I create a "to do" list for the rest of the weekend.

Okay, so maybe I'm more than a little obsessive compulsive. I have made my peace with that. I just can't let myself float along at be unproductive forever.

In unrelated news, I went to bed at eight o'clock last night. What a gripping life I do lead.

Sigh.

Well, folks, I did it. I changed my template. How do you like this one? I think the color is very "Sara." As usual, I had about 20 minutes of panic when I was trying to get my comments on the new template, but I managed. I also learned some HTML. "
" seems to mean, "move down one line." "

" appears to mean, "move down a few lines." Just to be sassy, I moved my counter as well. I don't know why, but messing around with this thing leave me inordinately pleased with myself. I just wasted an hour that I could be studying neonatology, so that I don't look like a dumbass tomorrow, but I find my blog to be much more important.

Last night I went to the Greek festival with Fred, Sarah, Stacey, David, and James. It was a lot of fun. Fred and I went on a church tour. I can see why he has become a Greek Orthodox. It's about the most complicated branch of the Christian religions that you can find. It was funny because we were talking to the old greek ladies, and they totally ignored me in favor of talking to Fred. I think it's because he actually looks like one of them, and I don't at all... because I'm about as greek as your average italiana. Anyway, we stuffed ourselves and drank some wine and danced a clumsy rendition of a traditional greek dance. Basically, you hold hands and dance in a circle. Poor Fred was connected to this woman who outweighed him by about 50 lbs, and topped him in height by about 6 inches. She was enormous, and she jerked us all around like we were toddlers. It was funny and a little scary at the same time.

Sometimes I feel like I might be smiling and laughing. Maybe I'm doing okay. My friends are good to me.

I should not be doing this right now.

I should be reading about the kidney. Those of you who have gone to medical school with me know that I hate the kidney. They're just two retroperitoneal black boxes to me. It's not that the job they do is particularly hard to understand. It's just that the things that can go wrong are darn complicated. So, that's what I'm supposed to be doing tonight, and instead, I'm blogging.

Things on my pediatrics rotation are going better now. I am doing more interesting things because kids are coming in with issues besides the form they need signed for school. I actually get to see exciting things like ringworm, diaper rash, and ear infections. I did get to do 3 newborn physicals today. I actually really like doing those. The good thing about K13 in Detroit is that I work with a group of young female doctors, and they're pretty cool. I'm learning a lot from them. The nurses are a group of very cool ladies as well. I'm lucky to be there.

On Sunday, Fred and I drove to Ann Arbor to hang out with Churl. He's a first year resident in Internal Medicine at Michigan State. All I can say is that he looks tired. I try not to let myself think about the years and years of hoops I have left until I will be a real doctor. (There are 4 more years, and four board exams at the very least.) Anyway, we went to my favorite restaraunt in the city and to the best ice cream place in MI. It was fun.
